review of 2007

2007 has almost comes to the end and it will be year 2008 in less than 48 hours. This was not really a great year for me compared to previous years. There were heaps of things that happened which I did not mention here. Even if I did, they were only about assignments and placements. They are many other things which I do not feel comfortable to express out here. That is why I do not blog very often here because I blog in another private blog and once in a while, in 'sevonders'.However, there are some 'happenings' that I missed out in previous posts. Just want to have a review of year 2007, to remember all the precious moments I had (and to throw all the bad memories into the trash!)

1. Celebrated New Year with my relatives at Cameron Highlands. I miss the steamboat and "lap mei fan" we had! and I miss all my cousins.
2. This is the last picture we took with gong gong before he got stroke just days to Chinese New Year.
3. Rain's concert in Bukit Jalil! which was a blast! =)

1. We had our 5 Petunia's little gathering at Sky cafe before everyone leaving the country again.
2. Chinese New Year! The most important event that I look forward every year. I still remembered we went to Neway after our usual family dinner.
3. Salina's Birthday, back to Adelaide in March: High tea + pizza + mahjong + stayover + yum cha on the next morning(dim sum in msia).

1. Picnic by Torrens River! Great people =P
2. Ayumi and Sharon's house warming. From authentic asian foods to typical western foods. You name it, we had it!
3. Kai Shen's graduation at Festival Centre. I just realise that there were 6 person in this picture but 3 of them had already left Adelaide.

1. I had my attachment with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in April! Great experience! Definately an eye opener for me and I had the chance to sit on beside the pilot seat while we were flying!
2. We had our road trip to Fleurieu Peninsula in April. It was really fun, I think we should have it again next year!
3. A gathering at Derek's house to celebrate Francis' Birthday.

1-3. My birthday! The first day celebrating it was on the 28th April at Chocolate Bean, second day was on the 1st May as a joint celebration with Shan's Birthday(2nd May). The last day was on the 4th May at Genki.

1. Rural Health Trip to Port Pirie and Port Augusta with Sharon.
2. Gwyneth's farewell in June. Miss having laughs with you.
3. I baked my own orange cupcakes in July!!! and they actually tasted good! >.<

1. A trip to Melbourne during July's winter break. I miss the feeling of walking at a new place and nobody knows you, enjoying those moments alone. Just alone.
2. My beloved Yi Jeh left Adelaide in late July. We took that picture when she was in the boarding room. >.<

1. A night to celebrate Malaysia's 50th birthday and to eat Malaysian food! =P
2. Royal Adelaide Show, starts on every first Friday of September. I still want to have a ride on sling shot if someone is willing to sponsor me. =)
3. This is the second Mid Autumn Festival I am celebrating without my family. It was/is hard... Afterall, I had celebrated it with my family and close relatives for 19 years.

1. The first fish that I grilled with my own recipe. 70%
2. BBQ at Margrette's place after we had our disaster OSCE.
3. It is summer time! Let's go to the beach babe!

It is going to be a brand new year, a brand new start!
Happy New Year Everyone! Happy 2008!

Just a week before I came back, Yeong Ru came over to visit me.
I am lazy, so I will let the pictures to do the talking. =)

We all got sunburnt after cockling at Goolwa beach.
But it was fun!

Happy Belated Birthday to Margrette!

We went to Hahndorf the next day. That plate of "A Taste of German" was meant for two person. There were three of us but we still could not finish it. Just imagine how huge the portion is. Then we went to pick strawberries, under the hot sun @_@. We picked alot, although Yeong Ru and I were leaving Adelaide the next day. Just cannot resist to pick more and more and more amd more and more. And we did not finish it in the end >.<

Had our "high tea" at Adelaide Convention Centre when we came back to CBD.
and not forgetting our "must" photo in the toilet. =P

To all my friends back in Adelaide, I miss you all so much! Please take care and keep in touch! My Aussie number is on roaming, so you still can sms me thru that number.

hmmm... i ranting again....

Finally, I have handed in all assignments! Phew~~~ what a relief...

my lifestyle was really upside down for the past whole week, work in the night and sleep during the day. >.< This is soooooo not good. Bad for health, I know. But I am going to get shift work when I get into the real working life anyway.

a big big big thank you to Sharon! I think you know what I mean yea? =P

OSCE was not as difficult as what we thought, it was double the difficulty! Although it was just a 20 minutes practical exam, but you can fail it in 1 second. That was what happened to my friends. I failed my 1st attempt by making stupid mistake, 84mls/hr and 84dpm. Careless me... I was really nervous too because the question was too easy that made you got no idea what kind of care you should provide to the "real patient" (yeap, we had real person acting as a patient and 1 examiner in the room). Apparently, as what the "patient" told my friend, not many people pass this senario because many of them did not know what to do. Anyway, I passed when I did my second attempt yesterday. Just gonna say that I was really lucky because the senario was clear and the examiner really did her role as "a RN in ward to help me". That was what the examiner supposed to do. They are suppose to act as a RN to guide us, not like the 1st examiner, just sat down there and watched. Hello?!? We are 2nd year students and we do not get to practice all these tasks in the ward! This is ridiculous. The uni should evaluate the OSCE's structure too. Rather than testing different students with different skills, I think they should make everyone doing the same task or they should have test us on all the skills, not just one. It is really unfair otherwise because everyone got tested on different skill.

It is time to study for final.

series of unfortunate events

1. train to gawler central was delayed.
2. gawler was the 2nd last station and gawler central was the last station. the next train we took stopped halfway after it passed gawler. the driver came out and told us that he is going to bring us back to gawler. we have to wait for the next train if we want to go gawler central.
3. the next train coming from adelaide to gawler was delayed until the time was unknown. and so we had to walk to the hospital.
4. placement issue. poor friend.

time to sleep...

In memories

I just realised that I do not have much pictures of you with me.
I so hate myself for not spending enough time with you.
I know no matter what I do, it would not change the fact that you are gone.

This is specially made for you.
Did you feel that?

The wind was really strong last night and kept blowing the candles off even they were placed in a plastic cup.

To Sharon and Ayumi: Thanks for helping me to complete them, thanks for lending me your shoulders and thanks for staying up the night with me. Love you girls!

Monday, September 24, 2007

why?

why did you leave without saying goodbye to me?

why did you leave without letting me seeing you for one last time?
what happened? what happened to you?
I'll be home in 2 months time, why didn't you wait for me?
And why none of you tell me about this!!!!!!
I have the right to know even I'm away from home!!!
even if I couldn't do anything, at least I know what is happening!
but I don't!
you made me down......

Embodiment

disembodied me and it had just broken me into pieces. My mind and soul are detach from my body. I do not see myself as a whole now. I feel like my body is empty, my brain is not thinking, everything is not connected. This is what embodiment had done to me.

Am I speaking English?

internet was down

AGAIN... the 3rd time in this month. It usually takes them less than 24 hours to fix the problem but this time it took them 5 days. The tehnician from internet company had configured the modem with me over the phone for so many times but it still did not work. In the end, they had to contact the ground line company and they decided to disconnect my ground line and reconnect it back again. Anyway, connection is back to normal now. Hopefully this will be the last time after all the hassles.

I am hungry. My apartment is full of KFC's smell which makes me feel even more hungry. No, I did not tapao any KFC. I got this free smell from the store just a few shops away from my apartment ==''' 7 days a week, unlimited supply of free smell during trading hours.

Dawn is one of the student doing placement in Gawler and she lives in GAWLER!!! She and her family being really nice and offered to let me and Sharon to stay in her place during placement. She has 4 sons, 2 of them already moved out. That why she has an extra room for us. At first, we were afraid that our stays will bring them i convenience. She said she has no daughter, so she is very happy when her 2 sons' girlfriend and fiance come to visit them. Therefore, she is more than happy when both of us are staying there. She asked us what do we like to drink so that she can get some for us after we finish our evening shift which ends at 10:45pm, added another bed in the room so that there are 2 single beds, put 2 nicely rolled-hotel-styled-towels on the rack and 2 boxes of chocolates by the sides, and a big teddy on the top rack which it was not there when we first visit, so that it looks more like a girl's room =) Before we slept, we went to say goodnight to her. We used body language since she was on the phone, did not aspect that she actually ignore her phone conversation for a while and said SO many times of "night night" and "sleep tight" hehe... so cute. When we walked to the room, I overheard she said this on the phone:"I found 2 girls......" LOL!!! She is so nice, we are really greatful that we met her.

Oh no... I am eating just plain nutella again >.<
Before i forget, SELAMAT MENYAMBUT HARI MERDEKA! I do not know why, the desire to celebrate Merdeka day is so strong this year. Sharon and I went for our Merdeka Eve dinner. A so called 3-course-meal in 3 different places. Appetizer: 1/2 dozen of fresh oysters at oyster shop. We wanted to eat something cold because yesterday's weather was really hot. Main course: A main seafood spaghetti at the strand

Dessert: 2 regular ice creams from baskin robin.
We wanted to buy fireworks afterthat, but we forgot...

Everyone is leaving =(

So many people are leaving Adelaide. First, Ah Shen left to Singapore in May after finishing his degree. Then, Gwyneth went to Melbourne in June to work. Derek went to Perth in early July to work. Jing went back to Malaysia on 28th July. Chris went to Melbourne a fews weeks ago because he got a job offer. Jordan went to Bribane a few days ago for his new job. Adrian is going back to Malaysia tomorrow after his graduation ceremony on Thursday, and he has already got a job waiting for him back there. Lastly, Amy(plus Justin the Pomeranian) is going to leave on next Thurdays to join Chris in Melbourne. So, a total of eight person and a dog left/leaving in four months. And these are actually people that I usually hang around with other than my uni friends.

Amy keep asking me to do credit transfer since most of them are going to be in melbourne. She was like, "credit transfer la..." or "think about it, they are sending you to Gawler!!!" or "hey, how is credit transfer going?" everytime we meet up. Haha! It was so funny! No doubt that Melbourne is more happening than Adelaide but it is almost impossible for me to move there because the living cost in Melbourne is way higher compared to Adelaide. They also do not have concession price for international students using public transport which is expensive! If I want to go Melbourne, I could have applied for nursing over there in the very first place. Melbourne is too crowded for me or probably I sort of got used to life in Adelaide. I do not feel secure walking alone in Melbourne CBD which I enjoy doing that in Adelaide, whether is walking to China Town or in the park. It will just be a place that I would go to visit my friends, for FOODS and shopping. Confirm I will broke each time after visiting Melbourne >.<

tired, exhausted

I just got a call from the services manager of Gawler Health Services this morning. She told me a bad news because there is no available accommodation for students. OH NOOOOO!!! She asked if I or Sharon has got a car, I said no. Then she told me that a nurse offered to let us stay in her place but it is 5 mins drive from the hospital because it is not situated in the town. We need a car to get in and out. bummer... How long would it takes if we walk? 5 mins drive = 20 mins walk??? Sigh... I am so tired of thinking solutions for this problem. I've got no more energy to think how to solve it. Parents are going to be worry about my safety if I have to walk to the train station at 5:30am and reaching home midnight. Stupid uni never thought about the students' safety problem. Simply send students for clinical placements without looking at their address. How ridiculous it is to send someone 55km away from their house?!?! great...

clinical placement

I have been doing those packing and unpacking jobs since before i moved and also after moved. It is so difficult to do the unpacking especially when you are moving from a big house to a small house. I had to throw so many things away because I really do not have enough space to keep them with me. About 80% of cleaning up has been done since Jing left. Another 20% is still waiting for me at the corner. Sometimes, I just thought of throwing everything away so that I do not have to do so many things.

Venues for clinical placement were out on Monday. I was lucky that I got a DEU rather than block. Doing a block placement means I have to stay Adelaide until 21st December. So 1 whole month of holiday is gone doing placement. Although I got a DEU(starting in next 3 weeks until a week before exam), I was one of the bad luck ones because I was sent to Gawler, which is a semi-rural hospital, ~50km from Adelaide, and the only public transport is by train. It is too far until no bus services there. How great it is... My early shift starts at 6:45am and the earliest train reaches the station at 6:59am. By the time I walk to the hospital, I guess the time will be around 7:15am and confirm that I'll miss the handover time. The clinical placement administrator said I can just tell my Principle Academic that I will be late. But the thing is I do not want to miss handover because that is the time where you will get most of the information of the patients. Otherwise I will be lost when taking care of my patients not knowing what is exactly happening to them. And that could possibly lead to a failure in this topic. I tried to put a message on the topic's forum to see if there is anyone that can swap with me. It was posted up on Tuesday but until today still no reply. It is too far, I know. I actaully do not mind doing rural placement, I think I will enjoy it. It is just the distance and transport problem. It takes one hour by train to reach there. Just thinking of going up twice a week makes me feel sick.

The aunty in my workplace actually offered to let me stay in her place and drive her car to Gawler since she is staying in Mawsons Lake. How nice of her... but I have not been driving for 3 years+ Then she said I can catch bus to Elizabeth and change bus to Gawler. I feel bad disturbing her because I will be waking up early in the morning. But if I have no choice, that is my last resort. Sigh~~~

Moving...

again... not my blog, it is my house in Adelaide. I am moving back to the apartment that I used to stay when I first came here because Jing is going back to Malaysia at the end of this month. So, no point to stay in the current 2 bedrooms apartment since I prefer not to share house with other people. Sigh~~~ So many things to pack.
gahhh...... I am so lazy, I do not want to move~~~ >.<

and more updates

Still do not believe that I had actually turned 21, but that is the fact! I am 21! Accept it!
So I had a birthday party at Chocolate Beans. I still wished that I could have had it in Malaysia, especially with the sevonders >.< Anyway, I still had fun because I had almost a week of celebration? hahaha! That was because some friends who could not make it for the party celebrated days later for me. Thank you! I appreciate the efforts!

So, that is my cake without candles but fireworks that we used to play during mooncake festival. Oh no! I just realised that I did not get blow any candle for this birthday! Eeee... December yea... sevonders! I want 21 candles! or what about cupcakes from cuppacakes? ;P but I still want candles on it! haha! Okay, back to the topic, guess what is the name of the cake? It is called "death by chocolate". Really really rich with chocolate.

I made everyone so SICK with chocolate after this party including myself. XD Everything we had was chocolate: different types of chocolate drinks, chocolate fountain plus the 'death by chocolate' cake, we really got killed by it! lol! I did not touch chocolates for weeks. eheh... something different tho...

A lil' bit more updates

I am lazy actually, so I will let the pictures do the talkings. But I will still talk abit la... ;)

So during march, we went for picnic by Torrens River. That was our first outing after the long summer break.
Next, we went to Adelaide's Convention Centre for high tea to celebrate Salina's birthday before headed to her house for mahjong session. Look at the cakes, they are super duper delicious! You will feel like you are flying in the sky after every bite! I will bring you all there if you all come to Adelaide. This is a must-go-place-in-adelaide recommended by me =P
Move on, that was Kai Shen's graduation. Most of them in the picture were my colleague in Knoodles. Yea, were...

Sharon and Ayumi's house warming in Glenelg. Less than 5 mins walk to the beach!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

During mid-semester break, we had a road trip to Fleurieu Peninsula. The views were great, beaches were breath taking and the most important thing was, I had great and fun friends that went with me! Sharon, Ehon, Claudia, thanks! It was a memorable trip!

We just love to pose... lol~~~ and yea, I did wall climbling! Not very difficult because I did the easiest one, haha! but my arms were a lil' sore after that. It was fun!

A lil' bit of updates

So many things happened in the past few months. Ups and downs, everything is there.
As I've said in previous entry, I was really busy working beside studying. I worked almost 18hrs every week for the first few weeks. Can die arr... and I hardly have time for my studies, this is bad, I know. Luckily workload from job decreased as time passed but uni tasks started to accumulate >.< Ethics assignment, law assignment, online exam, pathophysiology assignment, clinical placement and exam.

Anyway, everything is over now. Had my last paper this morning. Me and Sharon was late for the exam >.< First time in my whole life! No, we did not miss the bus, we were early instead. We planned to take 8:05am bus, reach flinders at 8:30am, then exam starts at 8:45am BUT... there were so many students from uniSA and AU were heading to showground to have their exam at 9am. Darn! The stupid little pathetic metrobus could not fit all of us. There were too many of us actually but why can't they just send a bigger bus? Although it is a Saturday, but they should know that it is exam period, students from uniSA and AU will be having exam at showground. So we had to wait for the next bus, which departed at 8:20am and reached south road at 8:55am. Not a direct bus into the uni but we had no choice. So we ran almost all the way to uni, put our belongings into the security room, get into the exam hall(people were looking at us >.<) and sat down. The time was 9:05am. 20 mins(including 15 mins reading time) late for exam. I could have done so much more with that 20 mins. So obviously I did not manage to finish the whole paper. It's still alright I guess. I am just glad that everything is over. NOW, it is time for me to clear up the exam mess. Tomorrow is going to be a looonngg day.

lazy me...

I just realised that I have not been updating about my life since I came back to Adelaide. Hmmm... not now. Better get prepared for tomorrow's clinical placement. Otherwise I will be dead if I cannot answer what my PA(Principal Academic) ask me. Everyone thinks that she is a psycho. So yea, better get back to my work now. tata!

petalingjaya--->adelaide

Gosh... Semester 1 have not even started and I am starting to worry how tough it is going to be. Paranoid? I am not sure. I just looked through at the study plan for week 1 and it scares me. It actually consists of 21 pages(usually the longest was 3-4 pages)!!! And it is only week 1!!! The number of readings I have to do on this week gave me another heart attack. There are more than 10 readings! How am I going to finish everything before week 1? I do not even have the text! and... and... and... it is still CNY! Awww...

CNY is coming soon, in 2 days. Means another 9 days for me to stay, live, enjoy, sleep, eat, drink, sit and the list will go on and on... in my home sweet home. I cannot believe that I had already spent almost 2 months in Malaysia. It feels like so short! I am going to miss so many of you this time especially my sweet little evil sister, although you are taller than me but you are always the small little sister I will care for =). Leaving to Adelaide this time means I am not going to see you all in another year. That is looonnnggg... I wonder if things will be the same when I am back next time.

-notthatgreatafterall-

So many things happened... aih~~~
Twice in one month! Some people might think that it is not a bad thing but I doubt anyone will think that it is a good news if you yourself are placed in this situation.
annoying......

Cameron Highland

Went to Cameron Highland on 1st and 2nd of Jan with family and relatives. Did not visit many places since we have been there for many time. We had a great time though. Had "lap mei fan" before starting our steamboat feast. yum... Steamboat was even yummier =P We had it at the balcony of the apartment. Mom actually brought a bottle of "fa tiu zao" to be added into the two steamboat pots which was *two thumbs up* No pictures were taken during steamboat time because everyone was lazy and too busy eating >.<>

Down to the night market later on and cousin started with an ice-cream asking whether if there is any offer if we buy more. haha! we did not get a cheaper price but bigger scoops. We went on and on with other stalls. Got RM5 worth of fried sweet potato balls with RM4, and thought of getting 11 packets of popcorns with the price of 10 packets. lol! We were nuts! oh yea, if you are in cameron, never ever buy their whatever so-called homemade "bing tong wu lou". Not worth it and it is a total crap! 3 tiny strawberries dipping in honey 'water' and the strawberries are sour. Strawberries dipping in chocolate were not any better, just another ringgit extra.

I'm still alive
